synopsis

Chapter One: California

1965 So I was born in 1965, in San Francisco.  My mother was 26 I think.  My father was 21.  He named me and left.  That's the basic story.  They met in New York when my father came to America for art school.  They were together for about 3 years.  My mom lived with roommates in San Francisco area and Marin County.

 

 
I visited my grandparents in Oregon most every summer.

I thought this picture was when my grandfather came to drive us to Oregon, but I realize now that Josh and I are too young.  I was in 4th grade when we left CA, which means Josh would have been in 2nd.

Right before we moved up to Oregon, we lived for year in Berkeley on D Street.  I remember living there a lot because Josh and I were both bussed to school based on integration that was happening.

Chapter Two: Oregon

I moved in 4th grade.

 

Middle school was awful for me, almost worse than high school.  I didn't have any social skills and was horribly timid throughout both.

 

Here's me in high school in Corvallis from 1979-1983.

 

I never dated or went to parties.  I was quite isolated.  I had a few friends and a bit of a friendship circle with the nerds I guess, more than any other group.  I wanted to be in a play but the first one I tried out for was a musical and I had no music experience, so I couldn't do it.  I regret that I didn't try out for the next play.

After I graduated high school, I went with my French class to Europe and met my father.

Chapter Three: Portland

Here's me during my college years at Reed 1983-1987.

At age 19, I went to visit my family in Switzerland for the 4 week winter vacation.

  

 

At age 24, I went to Europe to see my family again.

After Reed I worked at Catbird Seat Bookstore for 4 years, and I went back to graduate school in social work at PSU 1990-1992.  I gained quite a bit of weight in graduate school.

I got married at age 24 and divorced by 30. At 30, I went to visit my father for the last time, he was staying in Ibiza.  Josh got married and divorced also.

Chapter Four: The Columbia Gorge

I married Greg in 2010.

This was taken before seeing my cardiologist for Lipedema.

Greg and I went to Europe to see all my siblings during the summer of 2017.
